HISTORICAL EVENTS
In 1829 a group of 49 men incorporated as “The proprietors of the Young Ladies ‘Seminary” and
bought land of Simeon Danforth for the purpose of laying out a road and building a seminary and
a church. The road became Crescent Street (at the time Church Street). First Congregational
Church was built and then organized on the 3rd day of August 1837.
